Every Minute in this world a person commit suicide, or maybe more.It is very difficult to provide a precise figure for the number of suicides each year, as many countries do not compile reliable statistics. Nevertheless, it is easier to use studies compiled by the World Health Organization (WHO) to determine suicide rates in individual countries.
Russia has the highest rate of suicide in the world, with about 38.7 suicides per 100,000 people each year. The rate is especially high among men, with a total of 69 suicides for each 100,000 citizens. Russia is followed by Belarus, with a rate of 35.
Among western countries, Belgium has a high suicide rate, currently standing at about 21.6 per 100,000. The United States, however, has a relatively low rate, at around 10.7. Among American men, however, the suicide rate is much higher–in 2002-2003 it stood at 17.6.
The suicide rate in the United Kingdom stands at around 6.9 per 100,000, according to the WHO study. Nevertheless, there appears to be some uncertainty here, as the office of UK National Statistics places the rate at 18 per 100,000. In 2004, there were a total of 5,906 suicides in the UK.
We all fear the terrorist minds, but these people have to be given much more priority.
