Race Against Time to the Airport

I had to post this blog since a very long time but had been forgetting about it since  I just wrote a line a year back, but now I finally blog it !

It was the 10th of March , 08:00 am and I was waiting for Wasim to be there to pick me up for the Airport from my Halls at University, he had promised to be at Fleming Hall at 07:00 am but was late , soon he arrived at 08:05 am. I was panicking, and was loosing control, had called him up on his phone around 50 times.

Well as soon as he came in , we dumped in my bags and drove as fast as we could to the airport, Wasim was driving like a Formula 1 Race car driver, I for once thought I might loose my flight to India but he made me reach just on time.

I ran in with my luggage and was the last person to check in, the lady at the check-in counter laughed and said that  I should relax as I am not that late.

I got my boarding pass finally and my luggage was checked in, Wasim came in running after he had parked his car and asked “what happened saaley?” I just had my boarding pass to show and he was relieved.

I said goodbye to both adil and wasim and promised them that I will be back soon !

Who You Spend Time With Is Who You Become

Community is everything. If you want to see a preview of your future, look to who you are hanging out with. This isn’t some moral statement about your peer group, it’s more of a vibrational or elevational statement.

You see, we live in a literal Uni-verse. That means that we become what we think and what we think is greatly determined by who we spend the most amount of time with.

Do you spend time with people who are constantly trashing your dreams? If so, then after time, you begin to believe their doubt and their fear; not because their doubt and fear are true, but because we are creatures of habit and our subconscious mind begins to absorb what we hear, especially the feedback from people we love and spend a lot of time with. And if you start to believe their doubt, then soon you will begin to take action from that belief in doubt and BAM – the manifestation of the belief of doubt becomes real. Not because it’s true, but because the belief of doubt became your dominate thought pattern and that thought pattern influenced your actions and your actions produced the outcome.

The outcome of our lives begins within us. If we water our dreams with doubt, then we think doubtful thoughts; take doubtful action and our lives become a living testament and proof of our belief. Then, what many people do is take this “proof” and use it to further justify their initial belief. But you see, what they’re missing this whole time is the fact that their initial thoughts of doubt is what created the outcome of doubt. They unknowingly participate in their own demise.

But, this can be prevented by hanging with the proper community of people. Let us hang with people who uplift us, who encourage us towards our dreams and who challenge our thought patterns. Let us not surround ourselves with people who always agree with us, but rather people who support our growth by challenging our beliefs and helping us break through to new mental and spiritual ground so that our lives may be enriched as a by-product.

Look around. Who are you spending time with? And more importantly, who are you believing? If you have a dream, do you believe people who are living their dreams and thus know the TRUTH about what’s possible, or do you take advice from people who aren’t living their dreams and thus will tell you it’s not possible.

Who you spend time with and who you believe is a major factor that will determine whether you are successful or not. Our aim should be to hang with people who are loving, who believe in us, who challenge us to go to the next level and who inspire us. Life is far too short to hang with people who are always negative and who want you to stay bitter and pissed off like them. It takes a lot of humility to admit when we’re wrong and to grow past our limiting beliefs. Let’s surround ourselves with people who support our growth, not necessarily the way we want, but most certainly the way we need.

The Power of a Smile

A smile is a beautiful thing.

It’s a universal symbol of happiness and a force of nature. Yes, a force of nature. Have you ever observed what happens within you when you smile, or better yet, forced yourself to smile when you’re feeling down? Give it a try right now. No matter how you’re feeling or what’s going on in your life, close your eyes and smile. Observe the feeling of warmth that wells up in your belly as you do it.

Observe the shift in your energy as you turn that frown upside down. If you’re still not convinced, go in front of a mirror and notice how you look when you’re smiling. Once again, observe how you feel within and how you feel about the reflection looking back at you as your facial expression changes. If you’re feeling particularly cheeky, look yourself in the eyes, smile and say: “You’re awesome!” I believe that a smile is one of the most powerful and most underrated gifts that we, as humans, possess. It embodies our ability to create and our ability to express the infinite love that is within us.

So many of us go through our days dragging our feet, lamenting our struggles, waiting for this or that to happen to cheer us up and we forget that all the while, we have this incredible tool at our disposal to raise our spirits. When we smile, something lights up inside us; we connect to our Source and we are actually able to alter our mood. What’s even more amazing is that we can share this gift with others.

The only thing more powerful than one person smiling is two people smiling at each other. We all know that wonderful feeling we get when we look into someone’s eyes, and with the simple exchange of a smile, a world of meaning is communicated. It can be an expression of love, of joy or of laughter. Smiling is contagious, as is laughter, and the only thing they cost us is whatever suffering we are holding on to. In the same way that each of us has a unique smile that can bring joy to ourselves and others, we also all have unique creative gifts that were meant to be expressed in the world. Similarly, it is up to us to use these gifts to spread joy, love and inspiration, to pick ourselves up when we’re low and to lift the spirits of those around us when they need a boost. For one person, that gift could be having a way with words; for another, it’s a knack for creating culinary delights, still another has a gift for photography and another makes beautiful floral arrangements. There are an infinite number of these little gifts and talents in the world and they live in each and every one of us. If you’re not sure what yours is, take a moment and think about things that you’d really like to do but have never tried. Then pick one, give yourself permission to be a beginner and get busy discovering your gift! When we use our gifts and share them, much like a smile, our creations move out into the world around us like little bundles of love in motion. They have the power to heal, to move and to inspire. What a shame it would be to let these gifts go to waste.

So today, smile and smile often. Smile at yourself, smile at a loved one and smile at a stranger. And whatever that thing is that you love to do, do it and share it with someone. Play a song for a friend, write a poem for a loved one, paint a landscape for your sibling, photograph your favorite nooks of the city, sing your heart out for God, pick some flowers for your mom. And do it all with a smile, knowing that you are spreading love, joy and inspiration.

Change and Changelessness

Change is the basic truth of our existence.

Has it not been said that nothing is certain or permanent in life except change?  The entire cosmos is changing every moment. The Samkhya system of Indic philosophy talks about the evolution theory concerning the entire universe.

It was many centuries later that Darwin came up with his theory of evolution. Constantly and continuously, change is occurring to improve the outcome of effort. Nothing remains static. In every evolution there is a movement towards perfection. Perfection is a relative term, though. What perfection may mean in one situation may mean something else in another. Our perception of what is perfect is also something that undergoes change, depending on the circumstances and the level of evolution of our consciousness.

The changes, however, are not limited to the physical sphere only. At the emotional and intellectual levels as well, and even within a finite time horizon, changes can take place at a rapid pace, whether we are aware of this or not. Sorrow and joy, upswings and downswings are all part of this process of change. Every moment we are created and recreated. Every moment we are evolving. Those who are steady and have a relatively stable mind that is alert and aware, are able to understand this process of constant change. Therefore they remain unmoved by the impact of the transformation. They do not get alarmed by change. In the process of unending change the seeking that characterises the human mind extends to what is and has been changeless. That changelessness exists when the entire universe is embodied in a single point and when it appears in its most extensive and spread-out form.

The human mind is able to comprehend all of this. The vastness which appears externally is present within us as well. The capacity to hold or to realise the nature of the entire universe receives mention in the eleventh chapter of the Bhagavad Gita as Krishna unfolds and reveals his Vishwa Roopa or universal form to Arjuna, who stands dazzled by what he sees. The senses have limitations but the capacity to go beyond experience exists in us. As Rabindranath Tagore said, within the limited spheres of what we have known we are able to perceive the unknown. This is a wonderful capacity we are blessed with as human beings.

The wonder is that within the microcosm exists the universal, the macrocosm – within the confines lives the limitless and within the illusion is the truth. Between zero and one there are infinite possibilities. The superconsciousness pervading the whole cosmos is beyond any change. It holds the basic notes of all music which is emerging like bubbles in an ocean. Once we recognise that basic note, it is possible to see similarities in diversity and comprehend what remains beyond any transformation. Rather, in every new transformation, the indispensable old exists.

Once the mind looks inward and starts experiencing notes that are basic to all the music around, then the transformation appears superfluous – the permanence becomes prominent. And it is that state of mind which can claim ‘This is That’. A piece of stone and a living being are the same at that level of awareness and awakening. It is then valid to say that if we deduct anything that is complete from something that is also complete, then, the residual is complete, too. Infinity minus infinity is infinity, not zero. Hence, where is the loss or gain? It is peace, and peace only.
