Mumbai Burger Trail

The burger is America’s quintessential comfort food. No, we’re not talking about the fast food greasy versions, we mean serious business. And with the season for comfort food drizzling down on Mumbai, there’s no time like the present to celebrate everything meaty that comes in a bun. It might have started out as a poor man’s simple dish, but today constructing the perfect burger is an art in its own right and the chefs behind its conception are no less than masterminds. Here’s a rundown on some of the best spots for heavenly burgers from Colaba to Andheri. Allow yourself to surrender to a food coma by the end of it.

ADVENTUROUS EATERS

Ellipsis, Colaba
Kelvin Cheung’s menu at South Mumbai’s resident beauty – Ellipsis focusses on everything from Asian to progressive American fare. Coming from Chicago, it would have been sacrilegious if Kelvin had not included a burger on his menu. The most recent entry is his ode to the In ‘n’ Out style Burger (Rs 700). Brioche, beef patty, pickled cucumbers, tomato, onions, cheese, and the signature animal sauce – it’s a messy affair, but oh so worth the stains on your shirt. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

In n Out Burger at Ellipsis

Café Sundance, Churchgate
The brand new Sundance has little in common with the old one. The menu is entirely different and teaming with comforting burgers and hot dogs. Veggies should opt for thePortobello Mushroom Burger (Rs 425) filled with the earthiness of mushrooms. The classic tenderloin is great too, but we love the very English Fish ‘n’ Chips Burger (Rs 475)made Bengali with a dash of kasundi mustard. Feeling adventurous? Try the Sundance Sasquatch (Rs 900, but free if you can finish it by yourself) with 567 gms of tenderloin beef, bacon, egg, guacamole, cheese and other trimmings.

Cafe Sundance Fish n Chip Burger

Café Zoe, Lower Parel
This spot is the happy place for many people we know… the kind of place you go to when you want free sunshine with comfortable couches by day and want to unwind with a glass of wine by night. Known for their plethora of dishes, loyalists believe you can’t go wrong ordering anything here. We particularly love their signature made-to-perfection Zoe’s Tenderloin Cheese Burger (Rs 510). If you’re looking for a healthier option, the new addition of a Healthy Turkey Burger (Rs 550) is indulgent without the guilt.

Woodside

Woodside All Day Eatery & Bar, Andheri
Compiling a burger list without mentioning Woodside would be a crime. Home to theAnnual Beer & Burger Festival that starts today, Woodside Inn’s Andheri outpost –Woodside All Day Eatery & Bar has the same menu. The festival is one of the most awaited food events as each burger is paired with beer and served at bun-licious prices. This year, the one burger you should look out for is the Japanese Ramen Burger along with the inclusion of local beer makers, Gateway Brewing Co. If you can look past the slow service, you’ll be satisfied with their heart-warming Sliced Roast Pork Burger (Rs 445) with homemade bacon jam. Same goes for their Barbecue Chicken Burger (Rs 425)that tastes exceptional with an extra topping of scamorza for Rs 145.

BARGAIN HUNTERS

Roller Buns Café, Lower Parel
We had discovered this little gem tucked inside Todi Mills a few weeks ago and have been there innumerable times for lunch ever since. A simple place with just two tables, Roller Buns serves a delicious Chicken Burger (Rs 90) with caramelised onions. A humble burger that’s juicy and flavourful – what more does one need at that price?

Café Free India, Lower Parel
This place can be missed easily, but it cannot be skipped from the list of good burgers in town as it deserves a mention for being the kind of place that believes in serving tasty food instead of shouting about it. Located bang opposite Deepak Cinema, close to a lot of offices that leads to a steady stream of customers – their burger menu is quite impressive giving the location and size of the place. Among the chicken and lamb burgers, you’ll find the tender Louisiana Crab Burger (Rs 310) and Southern Fried Cottage Cheeseburger (Rs 195).

Imbiss, Bandra
When Imbiss came into the market as a “meat-ing” joint, we rejoiced and tried almost everything on their menu. One of the most outstanding things on their meaty menu is theirHamburger with extra cheese (Rs 120) cooked to your liking and served with fries. What’s so great about it? The burgers are always cooked perfectly with unparalleled juiciness and low prices.

Eddie’s Bistro, Bandra
One of the newer restaurants in Bandra, Eddie’s is a cheerful place with beautiful decor and delicious food. Among their list of appetisers is a Miniature Lamb Burger (Rs 280)that is basically a shareable platter of their lamb burger. The lamb is moist with tonnes of flavour coming from harissa mayo and some cheddar. Get a few rounds of drinks and pick up these bite size burgers while you’re at it.

Miniature Lamb Burgers at Eddies

HOMELY HOGS

The blueFROG, Lower Parel
Yes, it’s a great venue for live music performances, but let’s not forget their food. With a wide selection of beers that go fantastically well with the heart-stopping Legendary blueFROG Burger (Rs 650) – this one serves up food with a side of entertainment. What’s great about their burger is the way the patty is cooked on the grill and the fact that you get to choose what you want on the burger. We suggest you just be greedy like us and call for everything aka bacon, egg, mushrooms, onions and the works

Hard Rock Café, Lower Parel
It’s no surprise that this fancy American staple made its way to our list. HRC’s Legendary 10 oz. Burger (Rs 450) is famous the world over. However, leaving the obvious aside, we are equally in love with their Hickory BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger (Rs 450). The smoky flavours of its sauce and oodles of bacon and cheese make us come back for more. Don’t forget to call for a shake to dip those fries in – just the way the Americans do. Currently, they also have a heart-attack inducing Burger Festival going on.

Between Breads, Bandra
Probably one of the only places to focus only on meaty sandwiches, Between Breads is as close as you can get to a stop-and-eat diner with American style sandwiches, dogs, and burgers. Go past their splendid sandwich menu and hit upon the burgers directly because their Mushroom Cheeseburger (Rs 219) is fantastic for vegetarians. The Pork Cheese Burger (Rs 279) with loads of BBQ sauce and Breakfast Burger (Rs 269) with breakfast elements such as bacon and eggs make it super delicious and hearty. Let’s not forget the10 oz. Bacon Cheeseburger (Rs 339) for hearty eaters.

Chicken Burger at Gostana

Gostana, Bandra
This burger and salad café was started with the intention of turning greasy fast food into something healthy. The patties are steamed and served in whole wheat buns with a low fat dressing. Most people like it only for the health factor and go back for the homely environment, but we also love that it’s a pet friendly place with the owner’s dog roaming around accepting belly rubs from customers. Burger to try out – Chicken Burger (Rs 200).

Thoughts For Life

A Fantastic Talk Given by MR MURTHY today at IIT.

What do we all seek ?

Indeed it is SUCESS but what is success to you ?

Is it to gain millions and buy a Ferrari ? or is it to happily run your family just for daily means by running your small scale business?

Maybe you have a family business and you are growing it and expanding it.

But what is success ?

Is it gaining lots of knowledge ? Is it gaining lots of money ? Is it having a lot of stuff in your house or work ?
Is it having a lot of money in your bank or more Jewellery and Gold in your locker ?

What is more ? What is Enough ? What is more to you may be less to the other . So how do you define magnitude ?

What do you Define yourself as ? and what do you let other people see you as ? Do you accept the personality that is held of yourself ? If not , are you taking the right steps to change that personality of yours in the eyes of the world ? .

Remember that none of us know our Death Date . We just know our BIRTH DATE . Death is Definite but Stages in Life aren’t . So Work as if it is like the last day of your life . Do not delay because the last you know ;Your Eyes Will Shut & You may be dead before you materialise your plans into action. Think & Act now This Moment . Make the most of it . Do not regret as it is worst than a bullet hitting you hard on your chest . Time Once Passed Can Never Be brought Back.

Be creative . Be distinctive . Be Different. If People Call You Crazy, You are on the Right path, If you are not different you will not stand out. If you do not stand out , nobody will observe you. Do Not Be a trend ; Start a trend . Do not follow a trend and be a sheep. Fill that void. Be A Leader .

Remove the word “TRY” from your dictionary. It is either YES or No . When you say TRY it is the midway .

I am not what I am . I am evolving . We need to evolve . Daily . By saying that you are wrong . I am not right .

By saying I am tired and need to slow down , the world will not slow down for you. Time is running fast and it is you who needs to cope up with it , If I am weak I should immediately hand over the baton to the next proven in line to carry on the legacy and continue with something else which gives me peace . World has seen many Kings and Queens come and Go & I am just a Human and soon I too will Perish .Keeping things to myself will not make me great but weaken my legacy.

Distribution of tasks is very necessary to the right people or else your biggest a plans & Empire will fall down like a pack of cards and your years of efforts will drain in Vain and you will not even have time to Cry about it .

Gain Enough Experience in life in the task you you wish you Excel and then prove your skills by innovating it to a better level.

Do not hinder in others work or let them down due to jealously. Life will slap you right at your face & you will not even realise that . Why do I say so ? You will see it clearly with your own eyes . Last you know it is whom you think to be against you will teach you the most through his/ her actions. Keep Your Eyes Open to learn from LIFE , it will teach you more than your school teachers.

Be Empathetic , Give , Donate and Open A Charitable trust Life is better when you give to others and not when you BUY , BUY & BUY for yourself , GIVE , DONATE and do not look back for results Lord will reward you , Have a clean heart .

LISTEN , just don’t keep blabbering & act as a MR KNOW IT ALL , the person who talks the most is not the wisest one but who listens and grasps to what others have to say and acts correctly goes far ahead than the one who keeps yapping.

Do not Underestimate Anybody . You may never know you may land up doing business with the one you considered a looser in life & he will be the more successful one.

Do not believe in any work to be small I still do a lot of daily chores on my own even sweeping on my own if needed . It does not make me a sweeper but it makes my sweeper believe that he was slow for his work when he watches his boss sweeping .

It is very important to learn from people’s Actions . Sociology is a key player in business .

The Key point is , do not just think about making money , yes money is a vital part for surviving in a society . Think about how you can use your money for the benefit for not just your family but for your society too . Do not just live for yourself but live a life which others inspire to live like . Be an Inspiration not just an abbreviation , Be a motivation and not just a simple God’s Creation . We all breathe , eat and sleep daily that is normal but doing something unique is what makes us special . Do Something Which Leaves a Legacy Behind for your Name to Be Remembered.

Do Not Be A BEGGAR in FRONT OF ALMIGHTY GOD. DO NOT SAY , WHY CAN’T I HAVE THIS , WHY DID THIS HAPPEN, I WANT THIS I WANT THAT. PLEASE THANK HIM, HE HAS GIVEN YOU MORE THAN ENOUGH. THERE ARE MANY WHO ARE DEPRIVED OF THE LITTLE THINGS WHAT YOU HAVE WHICH YOU OFTEN NEGLECT & DO NOT OBSERVE IN YOUR DAILY LIFE .

Have Faith , Believe and Keep Patience . Pray , be religious and be righteous .

Health is Wealth. If you SMOKE stop smoking , If you DRINK stop drinking If you chew Tobacco Stop Chewing it . It is not difficult , your Brain is stronger than you think, Wrong vices will kill you in not just health but wealth too and not forgetting to mention , these vices WILL KILL YOUR FAMILY TOO.

WHY IS INDIA DEVELOPING ?

IT IS BECAUSE OF US. WE ARE TO BE BLAMED. NOT HIM, NOT HER NOT THE POLITICIANS , NOT THOSE CORRUPT Bureaucrats. IT IS US.

WHY US ? BECAUSE WE DO NOT CARE. IF YOU NEED THE CHANGE BE THE CHANGE DO NOT BLAME HIM OR HER OR ANYBODY THAT BECAUSE OF HIM THIS HAPPENED OR THIS COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER.

DO IT ! DO IT NOW ! DO IT YOURSELF ! AND PROVE THE OTHERS WRONG !

WE INDIANS TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED VERY EASILY. “ SAB KUCH CHALEGA”

WHY “CHALEGA”

WHY ARE SO MANY INDIANS LEAVING INDIA AND SETTLING OVERSEAS FOR A BETTER LIFE ?.

WHY DO WE DANCE AT EVERY FESTIVAL AND BURN THE MONEY AS IF IT IS ETHICAL TO DO SO ? WHEN THAT SAME MONEY CAN BE CONTRIBUTED TOWARDS HEALTH AND EDUCATION ?

LOOK AT THE STATE OF OUR COUNTRY ! JUST LOOK AT US! ARE WE PROUD TO BE INDIANS ? ARE WE ?

SPENDING HOURS IN TRAFFIC IN ALL METRO CITIES, POOR UNPLANNED CITIES , ALL BECAUSE OF SELFISH REASONS OF MULTIPLE POWERFUL PEOPLE THAT CO-EXIST WITH US IN THIS SOCIETY.

YOU CANNOT GET YOUR RATION CARD ON TIME, YOU CANNOT GET YOUR VOTER’S I.D CARD ON TIME , YOU CANNOT GET YOUR AADHAR CARD ON TIME. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS CLEANLINESS IN OUR COUNTRY , THE GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS ARE WORSE THAN TOILETS .

INDIAN RAILWAYS ONE OF THE LARGEST RAILWAY NETWORKS IN THE WORLD IS ONE OF THE WORST I MAY SAY. I THINK ONE IN TEN OF THE PASSENGERS COME OUT INFECTED FROM THE TRAIN THEY TRAVEL IN INDIA . THERE IS ABSOLUTE NO SANITY.

AND WE EXPECT OUR BRIGHT YOUNG MINDS TO WASTE THEIR TALENT IN THIS FILTHY COUNTRY ! WHERE POLITICIANS JUST LIVE IN THE LIMELIGHT AND DRIVE THE PUBLIC CRAZY. TILL YESTERDAY IT WAS GANDHI AND MODI NOW SUDDENLY IT IS MR KEJRIWAL NEXT YOU KNOW IT WILL BE SOMEBODY ELSE. BUT WEATHER IT IS ANYBODY TO COME , WE NEED A LEADER WHO CAN BE INSPIRED FROM AND WHO JUST DOES NOT TALK, BUT DOES WHAT HE SAY. AS I SAID EARLIER , PEOPLE LOVE TO TALK, BUT WHO DOES AND PRODUCES RESULTS IS THE WINNER !

JUST LOOK AT THOSE INTERNATIONAL CITIES, LOOK AT THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE, HERE WE ARE DANCING AT THE OPENING OF A NEW TERMINAL IN MUMBAI , BUT HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO FRANKFURT OR TO DUBAI ? JUST HOW BLIND CAN YOU BE ? WE CANNOT EVEN COMPLETE A SIMPLE FLYOVER LIKE THE SEA LINK AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT GROWTH GROWTH GROWTH , INDIA SHINING BLAH BLAH BLAH ! WHAT INDIA SHINING, WHAT MUMBAI WILL BECOME SHANGHAI , THIS ALL IS NONSENSE. WHAT CAN BE DONE, CAN BE DONE , BUT THERE ARE REAONS ABOVE ALL TO DELAY AND DELAY TILL EVERYONE STARTS LIVING WITH THE COMPROMISE.

WE ARE LIVING IN A HYPOCRETICAL SOCIETEY WHERE PEOPLE LOVE TO FLAUNT IN THEIR ROLLS ROYCE BUT WILL THROW THEIR GARBAGE OUT OF THEIR VERY SAME WINDOWS. THERE IS A MALFUNCTION IN THE SYSTEM AND A LOT OF CLEANING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

DO NOT GET ME WRONG, INDIA IS NOT A BAD COUNTRY WE DO HAVE A LOT OF FLAVOUR AND CULTURE , BUT DO WE PRESERVE IT ? LOOK AT OUR MONUMENTS AND PLACES OF INTERESTS ? ARE THEY MAINTAINED WELL ? WHERE DOES ALL THE MONEY GO?

EVEN REPUTED INSTITUES LIKE IIT HAVE NOT BEEN MAINTAINED WELL AND CRORES OF RUPEES JUST GO IN VAIN.

WE HAVE LOST THE VALUE OF “VALUE” AND HAVE STARTED TAKING A LOT OF THINGS FOR GRANTED .

WE NEED TO CORRECT OUR NEURO SYSTEM AND LIVE LIKE HUMANS .

I REQUEST YOU ALL TO NOT BE A SHEEP AND FOLLOW THE MEDIA AND THE NEWS BUT I WANT YOU ALL TO USE YOUR MIND AND EVALUATE ,

LIFE IS MUCH MORE THAN WATCHING A CRICKET MATCH OR A TELEVISION SOAP OR A MOVIE . IT IS A WONDERFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

BE WITH PEOPLE WHO KNOW MORE THAN YOU AND LOVE TO SHARE THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THEY HAVE THIS WAY YOU WILL LEARN MORE IN LIFE. QUIT STAYING WITH NEGATIVE PERSONALITIES.

DO NOT GOSSIP , IT IS A WASTE OF TIME.

KNOWLEDGE IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE PACKED AWAY IN SOME CORNER OF OUR BRAIN BUT WHAT ENTERS INTO OUR BEING COLOURS AND EMOTIONS HAUNTS OUR SOUL AND IS AS CLOSE TO US AS LIFE ITSELF IT IS THE OVER MASTERING POWER WHICH THROUGH THE INTELLECT MOULDS THE WHOLE PERSONALITY TRAINS THE EMOTION AND DISCIPLINES THE WILL.

SO GAIN AS MUCH KNOWLEDGE AS YOU CAN AND TRAIN YOUR BRAIN !

Why Rape ?

It has has become a constant source of worry now-a-days ,specially in India where rape crimes are increasing day by day ,even after the massive protest and condemnation of such brutal crimes happening against women in India at Delhi and Mumbai particularly .Even though government and administration are taking steps to prevent such crimes from happening (according to governmental sources ),but it seems that those measures are having opposite affect on these criminals.

Everyday as I read newspaper I find at-least three or four rape incidents that happened in some part of the country .In recent times ,incidents like rapes have increased far more rapidly than before ,even though society is changing with the passage of time ,people are no longer as orthodox as they used to be ,except for interior areas of Indian states .

Though I know most people would suggest that women should leave such country like India where women are no more safe but I think running away from a problem is not its solution .If we would drop our courage and hope for change in this kind of situation than no place is safe for us .

What really bothers me is what makes these criminals to do such heinous crimes like rape or brutalizing a women ,why can’t they control themselves ,what actions can effectively prevent criminals from doing these crimes .

According certain sources it is believed that porn ,low moral values or psychopathic mental conditions are responsible for encouragement of such crimes .Should all rapist be considered as mentally ill people who need treatment or they be executed with death sentence .

I researched multiple views for all of you guys who know about this matter and measures ,to understand what could be done in order to prevent these crimes from happening.

I have a friend who has a degree in psychology but did not focus on rape in particular, well he highlighted me with some key points.

Regardless, what I can tell you is that anybody can rape anyone, that there is no particular “type” of person who becomes a rapist. This is probably not comforting to you, since you worry about your safety and would like to prevent these terrible things from happening.

Gang rapes are a particular kind of rape (can involve group dynamics and sort of a mob mentality) and are different from general kind of rape, one that might happen in a normal relationship between boys and girls or even married couple.

Regardless, it’s not like one day men woke up and decided to rape women in India. In other words, it’s hard to speculate about the reasons (be it psychological, sociological, or political) why suddenly there is more rape and more reporting of rape, without someone taking the time and really studying these events.

However, regardless of the cause, the best way to prevent these is somewhat similar to the best way you can prevent crime in general. Don’t go to deserted places or bad neighborhoods or out real late at night. If you have to, go with friends you can trust, tell others (parents, other grownups) where you’re going and when you’ll be back. Be aware of your environment and trust your intuition so if you see a group of guys buzzing about and being rude or whatever, don’t wait till it escalates, just leave the scene. Dress properly. If you see some violence, call the police or other people and don’t get personally involved.

So much focus can be put on gang rapes but many times people are raped by “loved ones”, by friends, lovers, and so forth, mainly because they trust them or find it hard to say no to them or feel guilty or whatever. But whatever the situation, it does not help being paranoid about it either. Sometimes some cases become publicized for whatever reason and then there is this general sense of panic.

Think of it as driving or riding a bike. You don’t want to drive/ride as if anybody around might ram their bike/car into yours any minute. That’s be scary! But at the same time you don’t want to be so distracted as to not hear a car’s horn and get run over. Be aware, but don’t be scared.

Dress codes for women won’t stop rape, having educated and respectful men with accountability will.

We need less lessons for young women and more lessons for young men. We need more rape convictions and more counseling for both victims and perpetrators. What we don’t need is more victim blaming.

The Impatience of Mumbai Drivers in India

It was almost 9:00 pm and I was driving back home tonight. As always I often observe people breaking the traffic laws by running a red light. It is a very common sight in Mumbai.

At Byculla towards the j.J Flyover boys just go zoom across the bridge although it is forbidden to do so. The irony is that I see Traffic cops not wearing helmets never.

Nobody stops or gives you way in Mumbai Everybody just puts their car in budging to go first & when i give way to somebody , people actually wonder why is he not moving & then I raise my hand waving at them to go . It is a sign of courtesy which very very few Indian drivers have.

At the CST Station Signal I was first in que and behing me came a biker whirling across the traffic and my car was the only obstructing thing for him , he kept honking & kept swearing at me to move an inch ahead but the ticker on the red light was just 8 seconds to go. Can’t people wait for just 8 seconds I thought to myself ; Have they become so impatient , in the city of Mumbai that just for 8 Seconds you start swearing at someone ? While this thought ran in my head the signal turned green I moved less than an inch and the biker zoom across and went .

Cabbies, Bus Drivers , Bicycle Drivers , Autorickshaw Drivers , Motorcycles Drivers, Women Drivers & men Drivers All of them lack patience on road when it comes to driving a vehicle of any sort.

Everybody is in a rush . Nobody like to wait in this city. Everybody wants to be first in que.

When I slow down on the road and stop at a signal usually early mornings or on Sunday Evenings or afternoons. I am the only one standing there and people just do not bother to wait at the red light . Few people do wait and the obey the rules but others just go in such a hurry as if it is a crime to wait on red lights on a sunday .

Today I would be nearly dead .

At the Mantralaya Junction in Mumbai when my signal turned green out of no where there came a car from a no entry and zoomed across on the other side of the lane taking a short cut ; had i not applied my brakes on the right moment . I would have banged into that vehicle and met with a severe accident.

Even in the lane of Cooperage Football Stadium in Mumbai where I pass regularly People randomly just break the line and come in the wrong lane which is highly dangerous as when we take a left turn we just do not know when a car might just come and bash us directly from front.

Driving in Mumbai has become frustrating and a terrible experience. It is not safe at all to drive at night , people do not know the perfect road sense even after owning cars like a Mercedes Benz / Audi/BMW they yet do not know the character of a perfect driver. They just push the pedal and drive it like a toy . Thank God it is not GTA or else there would be more deaths in Mumbai City itself ; than in the actual GTA game.

We need sense. Driving sense on Road .

I believe we as citizens of Mumbai / India , owe the responsibility to drive safe & be more patient while driving.

Life is a wonderful journey why spoil it !

After the Rape…

Taken from NDTV.com

After the horrific sexual assault on a 23-year-old medical student in a moving bus in Delhi, the nation has said, enough. India’s Daughter has died, but her cry for justice will not. Join NDTV to take the fight for a change forward.

The government has promised better security for women and wants your suggestions as it frames new laws.Dr Prannoy Roy has signed the petition and listed his suggestions.

Facts

Fact A: The biggest deterrent against crime is not just the severity of punishment but  the probability of getting caught. Therefore, it is crucial to take steps which increase the chances of the culprits being nabbed.

Fact B: India has amongst lowest probabilities of getting caught. For two reasons:

  1. India has one police person for every 1,000 people. Other countries have three police persons per 1,000.
  2. India’s police force (unlike its army) is among the poorest-equipped in the world – with the lowest levels of technology (the lathi or baton and obsolete police rifles are just two examples).

Fact C: If anyone is actually caught in India,  the rate of conviction is negligible.  A recent report said that of nearly 600 rape cases reported in Delhi this last year, there was just one conviction.

  1. A difficult aspect of sexual harassment on the streets and rape is collecting evidence. Other countries have begun to solve this by using new video technologies.

Suggestions by Dr Prannoy Roy

Fundamentally raise the level of deterrent by ensuring a higher probability of getting caught by increasing the size and quality of the police force in three phases :  immediate, medium-term and long-term.

Immediate:

  1. Allocate funds immediately to set up a special police force for crimes against women.
  2. The government must commit to this and announce it immediately.
  3. Ensure this special force is trained and has sophisticated weapons and technology to gather evidence.
  4. If some states object to this measure on the grounds that law and order and the police are a state subject, the Centre should implement this solution in every Union Territory and in states where it is in power. For other states, the government should allow state governments to decide whether to introduce this, but if they are willing, the Centre must provide the funds for a special police force that is trained and focused to handle crimes against women.

Medium Term:

Allocate $5 billion (or whatever is deemed necessary) earmarked specifically to:

  1. Increasing the size of the police force in India from one per 1,000 to three per 1,000.*
  2. Ensuring the police force is better-trained and has sophisticated weapons and technology that gathers evidence.*
(*Note in areas that are state subjects, the Centre must be prepared to leave the decision to the states but be ready to transfer earmarked funds to states)
  3. Learn from other countries: the West is now covering almost every square inch of public space with CCTV cameras. This is a huge deterrent as it raises the probability of getting caught and being convicted.
India too should move towards covering all its public spaces with CCTV. This is a highly technical area and should be treated as a special project like the UID and must be designed, installed and operated by our software giants – Infosys, Wipro and TCS, working collectively. We have better know-how in this field than anywhere else in the world – we must use it.
(*Note: “Saturation CCTV” is not just a deterrent against teasing/harassing women, molestation of women and rape; it is also a huge deterrent for terrorists and most other types of crimes. Some people may object to this being an “invasion of privacy”. But what greater invasion of privacy can there be than molestation and rape?. ).
  4. Set up fast-track courts for crimes against women to ensure the conviction rate is high and justice is delivered quickly.

Long Term

  1. Sensitize and educate the Indian male – in schools, in government, in the police … everywhere.

Impossible is Nothing – Sachin Tendulkar

It was way back , around in 2005 when i first saw this poster and it just gave me a boost what i required to perform better, much better in life !
